removing dirt and stains from porcelain tile

Porcelain tile is somewhat different than ceramic tile. In many cases porcelain tile is porous and can therefore absorb dirt and stains. The stains in porcelain tile can be difficult to remove when clean porcelain tile with a normal tile and grout cleaning procedure. The stains are usually embedded deep within the porcelain tile and they must be drawn out with a poultice.
Removing stains with a poultice involves mixing hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and placing the mixture on the porcelain tile stain. You should cover the poultice mixture with plastic so it does not dry out. The next day you can remove the poultice and in most cases the stain will be gone. In some cases it may take a second or third poultice application to remove all of the stain from the porcelain tile.
With porous porcelain tiles it is extremely important to seal the tiles before they have a chance to get stained. Sealing the tiles will prevent stains from immediately being absorbed by the tile. This allows you the chance to wipe the stain off the surface of the porcelain tile before it gets absorbed by the porous porcelain tile.
